I've had a very long day of rocking out hard. Having sacrificed myself to the necessities of part of my job, I picked up Rock Band for my Xbox 360 today, and then pretended to be a rockstar for a significant portion of the day. It was really quite trying.
I'm not sure that Richie Sambora ever had to stop in the middle of a solo to chide a wayward child for hitting a cat with a drum stick, but until he has he's just not as hardcore as I. I didn't even pause the game, just snatched the drumstick away during a sustained note and then merged smoothly back into my rocking solo. If you'd like to just give me the Parent of the Year award now, I'll pretend to be surprised.
I was even able to coax my wife, who usually regards games with a patient enough, if disinteresed manner, into singing a few songs along with me. I suspect she had fun, though she was able to somehow tear herself away from the game and go back to doing things like work, eating and not-rocking.
While I'm thoroughly enjoying the game so far, I'm really looking forward to taking it with me through our Thanksgiving Wisconsin Expedition '08 to the various stops. I've decided to think of this as our tour show, with sold-out shows already booked in Wausau, Madison and Spring Green. I look forward to delegating responsibilities such as manager, security and roadie to immediate friends and family.
