Much as I like to hear myself talk, a very meta discussion of how I derived the name of my blog is perhaps not the best introduction. I'm not entirely comfortable with how to proceed, because 1) I'm not accustomed to writing outside the bounds of fairly comfortable anonymity and 2) I really don't want to come off like I'm writing some kind of Personals Ad or introducing myself at a chemical abuse meeting.
Hi, I'm Sean Sands, and I make part of my living writing on the internet.
So, maybe instead I'll offer a few random facts and let you derive from those items what you will:
- I go by my middle name.
- I am married with a child and two cats.
- I'm a dog person.
- By saying I'm a dog person, I don't actually mean that I am a dog.
- I like comedy that plays with irony or idioms.
- I know what an idiom is.
- I like to brag about things that are not impressive.
- I secretly hope that people I used to know will not find this blog.
- I'm trying to seem clever in case they do.
- I've managed to justify playing video games as a form of "work".
- I'm more comfortable writing down my thoughts than I am expressing them verbally.
- I believe that everyone is a fan of the band Journey, and only some of us are man enough to admit it.
- I listen to NPR in the car.
- I don't think NASCAR is actually a sport.
- I try never describe who I am in terms of my work.
- I can not perform musical instruments in front of people without panicking.
- I am very comfortable speaking in front of large audiences.
- I like flying but don't like airlines.
- I like to think that my procrastination is genetic so I can have someone to blame.
- I'll get around to the rest of this list later.
What this tells you about me, I don't know. I don't suppose it's any more or less than if I told you where I lived or what my cats are named or what I had for breakfast. Still, as far as baselines for personalities go, maybe you can do something with that and maybe you can't. I'm just glad to get it out of the way.
